Vegan Eats in Tamarindo

Finding places to eat that serve vegan food can be a hassle when traveling to a new place. Believe me, I am no stranger to confusing people about my diet. No thank you I don’t eat meat. Haha, yes a turkey burger is still meat. Is that made with butter? Okay I’ll just have the salad then, thanks. If you have been there I feel you and you are not alone. However, your life just got easier. Thankfully, Tamarindo has some really great spots where you don’t have to question the servers about how the food is prepared or ask for substitutions. Regardless if you are vegan or not these places are really worth a taste. Now not in any particular order your guide to eating vegan in Tamarindo.

Pura Vegan

As the name says it, “pure” vegan everything made here is completely vegan. They have a range of foods from burritos to pad  thai. They even sell Kombucha if you are into that. What really makes this place great also is its location. It is placed in an outdoor food court with a bunch of other options if you are traveling with some non vegan friendly friends who wish to eat something else.

Noguis

Although it may be hard to pronounce, it’s not hard to order vegan here. Noguis is located right on the beach so you can have a meal and a drink and watch the beautiful sunsets Tamarindo has to offer all with your toes in the sand. They’re not like Pura Vegan where everything is vegan but they do have a dedicated part of their menu for us vegans! Woooo hooo. And that’s not all! Noguis offers vegan pineapple pie which is the perfect dessert for that sweet tooth craving.

Vegan Tamarindo

The uber eats of vegan food! Now this place might not have a store front but they do deliveries Monday through Friday! The cool thing about this place is that the menu changes everyday and you can see what they have on their instagram. They really only do lunches but, for 3000 colones you can’t really beat that. Ordering is made simple through whats app. And I highly recommend the cacao cookies.

Green Papaya

Get your mexican vegan fix here! I mean who doesn’t love chips and guac. Green papaya makes their own chips and is known for their hot sauce. They don’t only serve vegan food but they have a menu just for vegans. So enjoy your tacos, burritos and black bean burgers without a sweat. 

Waffle Monkey

VEGAN WAFFLES ! Do I need to say more? No, but, I will. Enjoy your giant vegan waffle with cinnamon, sugar, peanut butter, whatever you fancy. This place also offers milk shakes to boot. Take in all this wonderful flavor right on the beach.

So there you have it, a stress free guide to eating vegan in Tamarindo. Of course this town has more to offer in terms of vegan food and I could not list them all. You’ll be surprised to find out that a lot of the restaurants here will have things noted on the menu whether it’s vegetarian or vegan. Also, not to mention all the smoothie shops they have in town to cool off on a hot day. Just don’t forget to try the staple meal of Costa Rica, the casado, which is rice, beans, plantains, salad, and your choice of meat, but you can easily ask for mixed veggies instead. Pura vida!
