A United Airlines fight on Monday April 24th made an emergency landing in Liberia, Costa Rica after one of its engines overheated over the Pacific Ocean 30 minutes into the flight.
The plan was originally scheduled to arrive in Houston later that day.
The plane was a Boeing 737-800.
You can see first hand experience of one of the passengers on the flight in the video below:
Jody Genessy Tweeted about the experience.
One of my plane’s engines overheated over the ocean. We about crashed in an emergency landing before the pilot quickly pulled up. So scary. pic.twitter.com/qbmlQOnYRX

Even for this experienced flyer (50,000+ miles a year) it was a scary experience…
We circled over the ocean for an hour to burn fuel before landing. I fly a lot. This was the most frightening thing I’ve ever experienced.

And it turns out they almost crash landed at the Liberia Airport…
The pilot was flying us in to land with one engine (he didn’t tell us this). Just as we were about to touch, a wind sheer hit the plane.

I fly 50,000-plus miles every year. Never experienced anything like that. The plane almost lost control on the runway. That’s scary. https://t.co/pDHfLRJwEi

The only consolation was a hotel stay and $10 voucher from United…
Way to treat us to dinner after that ordeal, @united. A $10 voucher! Should cover the water. (They did give us a hotel room too, but still.) pic.twitter.com/UwHd6gSV3P

The frightened flyer is all jokes now after the ordeal…
I might rent a moped and drive back to the U.S. from Costa Rica. https://t.co/eoLd36qnbm
