If good fences make good neighbors, then dirty rivers make for nasty land disputes.

Costa Rica has filed a complaint against Nicaragua at the International Court of Justice because Nicragua established a military post on Costa Rican soil.

The Nicaragua military post is on the Isla Calero in northeastern Costa Rica.

“(Nicaragua) has installed a military post in a small strip of that Costa Rican territory. We took diplomatic steps … so that they would remove it, which did not happen,” Gonzalez said in a statement.

This is an ongoing dispute between the two countries. The Hague ruled in 2015 that Nicaragua violated Costa Rica sovereignty in the area. Nicaragua and Costa Rica are still debating on the compensation for this ruling.
