You’ve made it to Tamarindo and are loving it (how could you not), which means you probably have the travel bug and are dying to see other places. Many people make Tamarindo their home or starting point because it is a great place to connect with other travelers to venture to other parts of the country (or other countries) together.
From Tamarindo, many places are within reach. Here are the top five places to go for mini-trips.
Monteverde – Made famous by it’s cloud forest, Monteverde is an oasis up in the mountains. Perfect for wildlife or nature lovers looking to explore the diverse rainforests, and there is plenty for the adventurer to do as well with some of the best ziplining around.
La Fortuna – Home to Arenal Volcano and many glorious hot springs, La Fortuna is a great get-away spot for couples or those looking for a relaxing weekend. The town also has a beautiful waterfall and if you’re up for it, some great hiking.
Nosara – A yogi’s paradise, Nosara has several yoga studios and training centers. A peace and calm contrast to Tamarindo’s upbeat non-stop nightlife. For the non-yogi, there is also some great (non-crowded) surfing spots.
Manuel Antonio – A beach haven, Manuel Antonio is known for some of the best beaches in Costa Rica. Those who are dying to see monkeys, should make this a must do – Manuel Antonio is one of two places in Costa Rica where you can see all four types of monkeys. The sloths are pretty popular here too.
San Juan del Sur – A neighbor to the North, San Juan del Sur is a popular beach town on the Pacific side of Nicaragua. It offers some great nightlife, lots of restaurants and plenty of outdoor activities.
